"I went to elementary school in California and one of my strongest memories is my teacher reading aloud from picture books everyday. Through this teacher I realised the power of the spoken word. I was also a shy child, so I read at recess, after school, before dinner, after dinner. I remember I’d still be finishing up a book at night, and my mother would come in and tell me it was time for bed, so I’d turn off the lights, but under the covers I’d still be reading with a flashlight in hand."
